WELCOME

We always welcome new members and donations to our garden.

Membership dues are $20 per year, and helping out with the gardening and maintenance is purely optional.

Your dues are used for purchasing plants, tools, upkeep and general maintenance, but not for salaries.

We are an all volunteer garden and work because it's rewarding, we love gardening and we like hanging out with our neighbors.

HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?

The easiest and fastest way is to click the button and charge your $20 dues to Paypal or any major credit card. You can also make a donation this way.

You can download a membership form here, print it and mail it to us along with your check.

You can pick up a membership form at the garden. They are located in the podium at the rear of the garden.

You can join at one of our membership drives, usually held at the end of May or early June. Dates will be posted at the garden for these events.

WHAT DOES BEING A MEMBER MEAN?

Having a backyard right down the street.

Enjoying a green place to drink your coffee, read your book, meet your neighbors, bring your friends, your children or your dog (on a leash, of course) work on your laptop (yes we have free wi-fi access) or just relax.

If you're an artist, it means an exhibition or performance space (subject to Parks Department rules)

Providing a service to the community by maintaining a green oasis.

Recycling waste into compost and creating a habitat for birds and butterflies.

Giving yourself time to stop and smell the roses.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Basically there are two options.

You can be totally content with your membership as is, enjoying the garden whenever it is open (officially from noon till 5 PM, Saturdays and Sunday, but usually open 11 AM to 7 PM every day, weather permitting) and attending any scheduled event of your choosing.

Or you can contribute 4 hours of your time to the Garden and helping us with a myriad of tasks, and then gain access to the garden on your own as well as vote in garden decisions.

As a member you will receive emails concerning meetings, events, work projects, etc. in which you may or may not choose to participate.

WHEN CAN I WORK?

This can be accomplished in 2 ways, first attend a scheduled work day for the full 4 hours. These are preplanned to accomplish major projects where several people are required and a list will be emailed to you. If you wish to participate in a project, just respond to that announcement and we will schedule you in.

Second is to complete your 4 hours in increments, such as watering an hour each day for 4 days during the season.  If you wish to work in increments, let us know as soon as you join, so we can arrange time with an existing member to show you the ropes, get you started and arrange a schedule suited to you.

Once you have completed 4 hours of work you will be given the combination to the garden and be able to come and go as you please (within reason of course) as well as have a say in what happens in the garden.

WHAT KIND OF WORK CAN I DO?

Different seasons require different tasks and much of our work is done in the spring. Planting is usually done in fall and spring and summer requires lots of watering and maintenance.

Other tasks may include:

Monitoring events
Opening and closing the garden
Watering
Sweeping
Weeding
Composting
Painting
Research / web work
Driving
Stone work
Working on major projects
